ASCII Shall Receive is a simple ASCII/Hex/HTML key code viewer. Press a key, see it's code. I built this because I can never remember what they are, especially for obscure opt-shift keys and the like.
This product is shareware and it costs a mere $8.00. If you like, think of it this way: you'd be buying me two pints of beer for my efforts. To register online, pop over to

The Manual
Viewing ASCII / Hex/ HTML Codes
Just press the keys on the keyboard. Their applicable values will appear in the display window.
Saving Codes
There are two ways to do this:
1. Cmd-S saves all the codes in the display window to a clipping file.
2. In the display window, select the codes you want to save and drag them into the Finder. This too will create a clipping file, but only of the selected codes.
The 'Clear' Button
This empties the display window of everything in it.
The Pop-up Menu
This switches between ASCII, Hex, and HTML conversion mode. Note that if there are already characters encoded in the display window and the pop-up menu us switched, it'll recode the values to the new format.
I may find a new name for this interface element some day. Suggestions are welcome.
The 'List All' Feature
This lists all the characters and codes from 1 to 255 in the display window.
Dragging and Dropping
Dragging out:
All the text in the display window can be dragged from it. If text is dragged into the Finder, the text appears as a clipping file. A few apps don't seem to accept certain dragged characters (ie: Claris Office doesn't seem to display some option characters as visible characters) for some reason.
Dragging in:
Text can also be pasted into the display window. The code for each character pasted will be displayed on a separate line. I don't recommend pasting your magnum opus into it unless you've got time to kill, large tracts of text can take a while to encode.
Option and Control dragging:
If a single line is selected and Option dragged, only the ASCII/Hex/HTML value will be dragged. If it is Control dragged, only the character will be dragged. If multiple lines are selected, only the value for the first line in the selection is dragged.
